Background information

The Strathbogie Shire community has recently shared their desire for overarching directions for how land will be used in the future.

As outlined in the Council Plan 2021-2025, we are developing two new Strategies: a Rural Residential and Land Use Strategy (RRLUS) and an Urban Growth Strategy (UGS). Together, these Strategies will guide land use planning decisions within the Strathbogie municipality for the next 15-30 years.

This is the start of the conversation.

The RRLUS will provide Council with strategic justification to direct rural residential developments in appropriate areas that:

  • preserve rural values
  • minimise impacts to productive agricultural land and other associated non-residential uses.

The UGS will provide certainty about preferred development outcomes for Council, service providers, the community, landowners, and developers.

The RRLUS will guide future rural living development that will not impact productive agricultural land, environmental assets, or bushfire or flood prone areas. In contrast, the UGS will guide future residential development in and around townships that will not impact other land uses or environmental values.
