Councils support a Visitor Economy Partnership for the Goulburn Region

In 2023 the Victorian Government released the Visitor Economy Partnership (VEP) Framework, marking a pivotal shift in the landscape of regional tourism support within Victoria. The ambition of the Visitor Economy Partnership Framework is to create an environment where all regions have equitable access to the resources and opportunities in the realm of regional tourism.

As a priority project of the Goulburn Region Tourism Partnership, partner Councils have worked together with State Government and industry stakeholders to collaboratively shape a VEP tailored specifically for the Goulburn region. We extend our gratitude to industry whose valuable feedback has been instrumental throughout this process to assure we are reaching the aspirations of our tourism sector. Your contributions significantly helped shaped the recommendation for our region.

We are thrilled to share that during the Council meetings in December, Mitchell Shire Council, Strathbogie Shire Council and Greater Shepparton City Council have all endorsed the proposal to participate in a new VEP for our region named Goulburn Region Tourism Incorporated. You can find more details in the Council reports available on Council websites below:

In being recognised as a VEP, Goulburn Region Tourism Incorporated is demonstrating a significant step forward for our region which has not previously been represented in the regional tourism network. Functioning as the peak body for regional tourism, Goulburn Region Tourism Incorporated will deliver supply and demand activities, such as advocacy, policy development and marketing to support and grow the visitor economy. The entity will have strong governance with a Board make up including Industry Partners, Traditional Owner groups and partner Councils.

Additionally Council Partners also endorsed the Goulburn Region – Destination Management Plan, which is the key strategic document to support the growth and development of tourism in the region for the next five years.

This endorsement and agreement to participate in Goulburn Region Tourism Inc. is an important milestone to progress the establishment and transition to this new entity. This process will continue in early 2024. Please sign up for project updates at the sign up form below to stay up to date with developments.
