Your feedback is helping us shape practical, balanced rules that work for everyone in our community – residents, visitors, pet owners and non-pet owners alike.

All feedback received will help Council draft an updated version of the DAMP. This draft will be released for further community comment before being finalised later in the year.

Initial Community Consultation – What We Heard

Over recent months, we asked the community to share their views on animal management in Strathbogie Shire. The feedback has directly shaped the draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2025–2029. A link to the comprehensive engagement report can be found below but here is a snapshot of the key themes we heard during consultation.

Key Issues Raised

  • Barking Dogs – the most common nuisance, particularly in Avenel and Euroa.
  • Roaming Animals – strong concerns about cats and dogs roaming. Many supported cat curfews and containment laws to protect wildlife.
  • Enforcement & Penalties – calls for stronger action against repeat offenders, unregistered pets, and inadequate fencing.
  • Affordability – registration and desexing costs seen as barriers to compliance. Suggestions included subsidies, lower fees, and easier options for seniors.
  • Education & Awareness – need for more signage, campaigns, and resources on responsible pet ownership and the benefits of registration.
  • Access to Information – feedback that Council’s website and services should be easier to use.
